ABOUT SOTT

Founders' Intent

This organization was founded on 4July2002 to provide a medium by which the veterans and active members of U.S. Special Operations could join together here in Texas. Our intent is to "roundup" all U.S. Special Operations Forces/Army Rangers (past and present) residing in the State of Texas who wish to unite as and/or support a unique organization, resulting in a new paradigm of Elite Brotherhood… "Societas Electa."

Mission Statement
  • To establish an organization which fully supports its members, veterans and active duty U.S. Special Operations Forces/Army Rangers as well as their families
  • To promote camaraderie among all U.S. Special Operations Forces/Army Rangers through fellowship and family support
  • To recognize those who served with honor and distinction and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation
  • To ensure the undertakings and achievements of U.S. Special Operations Forces/Army Rangers past, present and future are upheld and not forgotten
  • To gain support throughout the nation, the state of Texas and local communities, while promoting the values and high standards established by U.S. Special Operations Forces/Army Rangers
  • To provide an institution for managing funds and sponsoring activities which achieves these goals.

Motto, Logo and Seal Descriptions

Latin Motto: Societas Electa – "Elite Brotherhood"

Concept: Rick Ayers and T. "Speedy" Gonzales
Source: Dr. Robert Yanko of St. Thomas University - Houston, TX

Primary Logo: The SOTT logo is a collage of images found in the various unit insignias/badges of USSOCOM and other Elite Units. (Note: "Historical Lineage" may also be represented by these images.)  The "Red Arrowhead" was worn by the 1st Special Service Force and is the current insignia for USASOC. It is therefore the foundation of SOTT"s logo. Affixed to the sides of the Red Arrowhead are the "Gold Wings" of USMC Force Recon. In the upper half of the Red Arrowhead is the top portion (3 points) of the Navy SEAL Trident. This of course represents our UDT/SEAL comrades and USNSWC. In the lower half are the swept wings and dagger from the AFSOC insignia. The Gold Wings and the dagger (AFSOC), combined, are indicative of 160th SOAR. The crossed arrows represent Special Forces (SF). Finally, the Ranger Crest is at the forefront in the shape of Texas. It is indicative of all US Army Ranger units (from Church"s Rangers of 1622 to present) and "Individual Rangers." The shape of Texas is, of course, for our pride as Texans and represents our establishment within the state of Texas. It is for exclusive use by SOTT.

Image Support – "Texas Ranger Crest":  Kayla Webb and Les Lewis
Graphics Layout: Chris Pearce > Groundflare Grafix

Secondary Logo: Spec Ops Team Texas [Ranger] badge. Reads "Spec Ops Team" with TEXAS stamped into the points of the Lone Star. Derived form early era Texas Ranger badge and is indicative of our Texas pride. Also, it denotes the inclusion of the early Texas Ranger Companies in the lineage and history of the American Rangers. This logo is for alternate use, in any application, where it is not feasible and/or warranted to use the primary logo.

It is for exclusive use by SOTT.

Concept, Design and Symbolism: Rick Ayers > Ranger Rick Designs
Final Graphics: Wesley Faries > Ambient–Design

Seal: The Seal is for use on SOTT letterhead and official documents, unless the primary and/or alternate logo is determined to be more appropriate and/or sufficient.

Objective: To clearly indicate the name of the organization, date of establishment and show our Texas pride. It is for exclusive use by SOTT.

Symbolism: (Outer Circle) Bordered with gold rope and contains the association"s name and year established. "Special Operations Team Texas, est. 2002." (Inner Circle) Has the "First Flag of the Republic" in the background representing past SOF/Rangers. The "Lone Star" is "filled" with the current state flag (as if it is freely waving/flying), indicative of present SOF/Rangers. The "Lone Star" appears to rise (3D) from the image to represent the future.

Taken as a whole, it signifies the coming together of past and present [SOF/Rangers] to form something new and [rise] into the future.
